Introduction

On February 28, 2014 Governor Rick Scott announced his appointment of Heather Pomper Brinkworth to fill the District 3 vacancy on the School Board of Broward County, Florida.   The term is effective from February 28, 2014 through November 18, 2014.

Heather is a former reading teacher at Stranahan High School and Lauderhill Middle Community School.  She has served as Chair of the Fort Lauderdale Education Advisory Board and as PTA President at Bayview Elementary School. Heather currently is a regional program manager for the Barbara Bush Foundation for Family Literacy managing the Teen Trendsetters Reading MentorsProgram, as well as family literacy scholarships.

Governor Scott stated, “Heather’s dedication to serving students makes her a great choice to serve on the Broward County School Board. I am confident that she will continue her work to provide the students of Broward County with a great education.”

A graduate of Florida Atlantic University, with a degree in English, Heather is married to a local businessman, and they have two children in Broward County Public Schools. She is looking forward with anticipation to working with the rest of the Board as they strive to ensure a high quality education for Broward County’s children.

Heather was officially sworn in Tuesday, March 11, 2014, before the start of the regularly scheduled School Board Workshop.

Aug-Sept, 2014 D3 Newsletter

I cannot believe how quickly this summer has flown by. The teachers will be coming back on August 11th, and the 1st day of school is set for August 18th.

June July 2014 D3 Newsletter

We are rapidly approaching the end of this school year and I have been visiting as many of the District 3 schools as possible to say hello, and learn about the needs of each school. The School Board  continues conducting a “Needs Assessment” survey of all Broward County public schools over the coming months. Many schools have substantial facility issues that have been accumulating during the recession.  District 3 schools have varied substantial repairs that are needed.
